Our Story

The Beginning

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had extremely sensitive skin. Plagued throughout childhood with bouts of eczema and severe reactions to cosmetics, I started making my own skincare. I became an esthetician and herbalist, got my writing degree and went on to study naturopathic medicine and traditional methods of healing.

Convinced I could never make a living doing work I loved, I toiled away in corporate America and spent my weekends in the kitchen, perfecting my recipes. Finally in 2001, restless from the confines of corporate politics and pantyhose, I quit my job and took the plunge. Named for the linden trees outside my apothecary windows, also known as tilleul, and meaning running water, Talulah was born.

Our potent formulas are based on herbalism, naturopathic medicine, aromatherapy and took years to develop. Completely free of parabens, phthalates, synthetics and petrochemicals, we use ingredients plucked directly from nature that provide profound nutritional benefit for your skin like organic pomegranate oil with a rich ruby hue or the brilliant green leaves of wild nettle. We never test on animals, our entire product line is 100% vegetarian and we have lots of vegan products too. Natural is not a marketing gimmick for us. It’s the way we’ve been doing business since the very beginning.

Despite our growth, I still personally formulate every recipe and our entire product line is handmade in small batches by our wonderful crew at our Headquarters in New York’s Catskill Mountains. Turning down opportunities to mass-produce and sell out time and again, we continue to value quality over quantity and take an artisanal approach to manufacturing. We are essentially the cosmetic equivalent of the slow foods movement. You won’t find us on every corner and that’s how we like it.

I am a believer in the physiological, emotional and healing impact of self-care. With nearly every illness caused or worsened by stress, we must cultivate rituals that reconnect us with our own inherent beauty, spur deep healing and help us to simply let go of the self-criticism that is so prevalent in our society. With this in mind, I set out to create a line that delivers real results but also realistic expectations. Our products encourage and support real beauty – that which includes all shapes, colors, ages and personalities and values health over vanity. True beauty is the most vibrant version of you possible – healthy, radiant and at peace with who you are.
